Background:
Phil, an intrepid motorcycle traveller in the roadhouse from where the 700 kilometer Oodnadatta track in the center of Australia begins.

Characters:
- Phil, the intrepid motorcyclist
- Cashier, a very young, tremendous, pale woman
- Manager, a tamed wild man in his fifties, rough but charming voice
- 3 women, from the village in their best age

Stage:
Roadhouse shop with a coffee table. The three women sitting around the table, chatting. Phil standing at the cashiers desk with a bottle of water and a small tuna fish can.

Act 1 of 1:

Phil: “The road restrictions says 4WD only. Is it allowed to go by motorcycle?”

Cashier: “I dunno…”

Phil: “It’s a dirt bike.”

Cashier: “We had a German biker here two weeks ago. He had an accident.”

The Manager enters the stage, stays in background.

Cashier, loud to manager: “Is it allowed to drive to William Creek by motorcycle?”

Manager: “Yeah, you’ll be fine!”

Cashier, to Phil: “Do you have a rescue system?”

Women, loud: “Oh, motorcycle! A German motorcyclist had an accident!”

Phil, to cashier, hesitant: “No, no rescue system.”

Women, loud: “He broke his chest!”

Cashier, to Phil: “He broke his chest. Luckily he had a rescue system.”

Phil, to cashier: “How did it happen?”

Women, loud: “We had to rescue him!”

Cashier, to Phil: “I had an accident myself last week.”

Phil, to cashier: “…”

Cashier, to Phil: “With my car. I dunno what happened. The car just turned on its side. Bruises all over my body. Four hours I had to wait for help, can you imagine that? For hours!”

Phil, to cashier: “…”

Cashier, to Phil: “It was hot!” (short pause) “Back in Germany I’d be on a sick leave for at least two to three weeks. But here, there’s not much on anyway.”

Women, loud: “He came to our hospital here.”

Cashier, to Phil: “I couldn’t talk to him, I had thorns in my feet.”

Phil, to cashier: “Well. But I won’t get a fine from the police if I try?”

Cashier, loud to manager: “Can he drive tomorrow?”

Manager: “Yeah, you’ll be fine!”

Cashier, in a low voice to Phil: “He says that to everyone.”

Phil, waving with one hand, smiling, off.
